At the beginning of July, the INSEE and INED, two huge French polling institutes, published the results of a study conducted between July 2019 and November 2020 on the diversity of the population in France.
Increase in mixed marriages
“Mixed” means a marriage in which at least one of the two participants is not of French nationality – this trend has been growing since the 70s as one in seven marriages celebrated in France concerns a person of French nationality marrying a person of foreign nationality. From 1950 to 2019, over the course of its history, the France went from 6% to 15.3% of mixed marriages, while seeing the popularity of marriage decline.
These figures do not take into account mixed marriages taking place abroad and including a French citizen – on the other hand, since 2017, the rate of women is almost equal to that of men in mixed marriages celebrated in France. Between 1960 and 1980, these were less well represented since they were more often alliances between a foreign man and a French woman (60%) – this balance is now almost restored.
The study is interesting on many levels and you can find it in its entirety here: Trajectoires et Origines 2 (ined.fr).
Far from romantic administration
Nevertheless, if you have taken the steps to marry a foreign citizen or you will currently find in the capernaum documents required by the authorities (French or not), you should know that love sometimes explodes, in the face of a missing certificate of custom or yet another legalization refused.

This is why Oui Immigration has created its “marriages” service, whose purpose is to:
- Clarify the marriage procedure (which varies by country/nationality)
- Establish a chronology
- Help you obtain all the requested documents (legalized / apostilled civil acts, translations, ability to marry, certificate of celibacy, etc …..)
- Assist you in your efforts with the various authorities (Town Halls, Consulates,….)
- And once the wedding is celebrated and the party is over, get the right work permit/residence, in the country of your choice
Having lived it, I can assure you that once you go through all this, you think twice before divorcing 😊
