The General Direction of Foreigners in France (DGEF) has recently published the figures of immigration to France for 2021.
Oui Immigration summarizes here this study, that you can find in full here: The figures 2021
Visas
The sanitory crisis has obviously had an impact on the number of visas issued by the France in 2021: in 2019, the number of visas issued was 3,534,999 against 733,070 in 2021 and 712,317 in 2020.
The first four countries of origin of the applicants are Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. We take this opportunity to recall here an alert mentioned earlier by Oui Immigration (VISA difficulties): applications from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia have been suffering for the last 6 months of considerable delays, especially in terms of appointment with the authorities – it is therefore important to anticipate by at least 4/5 months the arrival to France.
Residence permits
In 2021, 270,925 residence permits ( “titre de séjour”) were issued. Family & studies are the main grounds for application, and 370,569 of these residence permits have been issued to British citizens. Since the implementation of Brexit, the latter must follow an immigration procedure to live and work in France.
Asylum & nationality
121,554 asylum applications were made in 2021 – the main countries of origin are Afghanistan, Côte d’Ivoire, Bangladesh, Guinea and Turkey.
94,092 people acquired French nationality in 2021.
These figures, although on the rise post Covid, are linked to the current difficulties of French authorities to digitalize and manage immigration flows.
To overcome this, 2 keys: 1/ anticipate your mobility 2/ use an immigration expert like Oui Immigration to advise you and optimize the management and deadlines of your application.
