Iran issuance of Schengen visas

Iran – issuance of Schengen visas
Immigration is often at the heart of diplomatic relations: borders are closing,  visas issuance become more difficult and blockades more frequent. Iran is currently going through an intense period – what are the repercussions on immigration?
False rumors

Voices have recently been raised to denounce the fact that European countries have been blocking the issuance of visas for the Schengen area lately.

The Consulate of France in Tehran issued a statement on 11/10 indicating that these were false rumors, and that France, like other European countries, continues to issue visas. However, the statement says that “due to the internet blockades decided by the Iranian authorities, the Embassy of France is temporarily no longer able to process a large volume of files and making appointments with our provider VFS is currently complicated“.

Several other European consulates have released the same type of message on their websites.

It is certain that the number of applications must have increased lately, and that the number of officials of Consulates or visa centers receiving applications has most probably decreased– delays will inevitably be impacted.

Foreign visitors

France, like other countries, has strongly advised its nationals visiting Iran to leave the country, “given the risks of arbitrary detention to which they are exposed“.
