Since October 4, the lottery for the U.S. Diversity Visa is open! You have until November 7, 2023 to register and try to obtain a permanent resident visa for the United States. For the year 2025, 55,000 visas are available.
What is it?
Better known as the Green Card, the Diversity Visa is offered every year through a lottery system. If successful, it gives access to the American Holy Grail, the Green Card, which allows you to live and work in the United States.
For whom?
The following countries are not eligible this year:
Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam.
Indeed, nationals of these countries have already received a large number of visas in the last five years.
If you are not a citizen of these countries, you can submit your application, provided that you meet the following conditions:
- Valid passport
- Have at least 12 years of formal education (high school)
- OR have at least 2 years of professional experience in the last 5 years, in a trade that requires at least 2 years of internship or experience to be carried out
How?
Registrations are made through this site only: Electronic Diversity Visa Program (state.gov).
You will be asked to enter your personal details, a passport photo in accordance with current standards, your diplomas, your CV, as well as the members of your family accompanying you. The latter are eligible if they are under 21 years old in the case of a child, and upon presentation of a marriage certificate for your spouse.
Be careful, any mistake will result in the cancellation of the file: you must therefore be precise and vigilant when filling out the application. On the official website, there are many tutorials and FAQs that can help you.
Registration is free.
What’s next?
Thanks to the registration number of your application that will be given to you if it is accepted, you will be able to regularly check the site used to check the progress of your file, in the “Diversity Visa Program and Entrant Status Check” section of dvprogram.state.gov.
If you are selected, you will be able to apply for a visa at the corresponding U.S. Consulate between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
Be careful, seeing your file selected during the first step just means that you meet the criteria: it does not mean that you have “won” the visa!
